For years, proposals at Disney’s resort hotels were a staple for Orlando photographers. That changed in 2026. If you’re planning a Disney proposal, here’s what’s different, what isn’t, and the options that still work.
What changed in 2026
Walt Disney World’s property rules prohibit “photography, videotaping or recording of any kind … for unapproved commercial purposes,” along with “conducting any unauthorized commercial activities.” In early 2026, Disney began enforcing those rules much more strictly: Disney security and legal teams sent cease-and-desist letters to outside businesses offering services on property, warning of trespass notices for anyone who didn’t comply. Portrait photographers working at the resort hotels were among them, along with room decorators, in-room stylists and private chefs.
Disney has pointed to safety and operational concerns about unauthorized vendors at its resort hotels.
Option 1: Propose in the park and use Disney’s photographers
Disney PhotoPass photographers are stationed at photo spots throughout the parks, and Disney has piloted its own paid portrait sessions at a couple of its resorts (reported at $399 for about 40 minutes at the Grand Floridian and Polynesian). If the castle itself is the point, this is the path. Check with Disney for current availability and what they’ll capture.
A few park rules worth knowing: selfie sticks aren’t allowed in the parks, tripods have size limits, and drones aren’t allowed anywhere on property.
Option 2: Propose at Disney, celebrate with us the next day
Plenty of couples keep the proposal itself private — just the two of you, on a ride or at a spot that means something — and book an engagement session ($400) off property a day or two later. You get relaxed, unhurried portraits with the ring, in your Disney outfits or ears if you want them, without a single rule to work around.
Option 3: The Disney feeling, without Disney property
What most couples want from a Disney proposal is the storybook feeling — and that you can recreate nearby, with a photographer free to work:

- Lake Eola, downtown Orlando — evening fountain light shows and swan boats.
- A rooftop or balcony at blue hour — city lights instead of fireworks.
- Celebration’s lakeside town center — a short drive from the parks, with its own proposal page.
